Unvaccinated Non EU visitors can enter Spain from today with a negative Covid test.

It has been confirmed by the Spanish tourism minister Reyes Maroto that unvaccinated visitors can enter Spain from today.

They will need to have a negative Covid test.   This can be a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival or a negative Antigen test no more than 24 hours prior to arrival.

The news was published in the official state gazette today.  Full details are below.

The Official State Gazette (BOE) publishes an order from the Ministry of the Interior that relaxes the health requirements for entry to Spain for travellers from non-EU countries, who from today will be able to show a certificate of vaccination, recovery or a negative diagnosis certificate in entry controls to the country, giving tourists from non-EU countries the same conditions required of citizens of the European Union and associated Schengen countries.

“The new phase of the pandemic allows us to relax the health requirements for entry to Spain, equating non-EU travellers with those from the EU and associated Schengen countries. This excellent news, highly anticipated by the tourism sector, will make it easier for tourists from outside Europe to visit us this high season, guaranteeing safe mobility. Spain is emerging as one of the most desired destinations in the world, as shown by the demand indicators that month after month are approaching pre-pandemic levels and this measure will speed up the recovery of the sector by facilitating the entry of international travellers”, has valued the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.

According to the order published today in the BOE, travellers entering Spain through air or sea borders, regardless of their place of origin, must be in possession of one of these three certificates:

– Vaccination certificate that meets the requirements established by the Ministry of Health.

– Negative SARS-CoV-2 diagnostic test certificate. NAAT type tests (PCR or similar) carried out in the 72 hours prior to departure to Spain or an antigen test carried out in the 24 hours prior to departure to Spain will be valid.

– Certificate of recovery issued by the competent authority or by a medical service at least 11 days after the confirmation of the COVID infection by a PCR or antigen test. These certificates will be valid for 180 days.

Children under 12 years of age will be exempt from presenting any type of certificate. In addition, passengers arriving by sea, as well as those arriving at airports with an EU Covid Digital Certificate or recognized as equivalent by the European Commission, will not have to fill out the SPTH Health Control Form.
