The Canary Islands Government said it has a plan B if the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands rejects its proposal to have a voluntary use of Covid certs to access business interiors.
If the proposal fails at the courts, the Government has said they will reduce the capacity of hospitality and have an earlier closing time for the holiday season from the 15th of December.
The proposal would give a vaccine bonus to businesses that voluntary require a vaccine cert to enter the interior.
If a business used the proposal, they would be able to operate at one restriction level less than what the island is currently on.
For example, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are currently at Level 2 restrictions. If a business on these islands voluntary implemented the proposal, it could operate at level 1 restrictions.
The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands will have 72 hours to endorse or not the proposal once they receive it.
Business groups have supported the move. If a business operates the need for a vaccine cert, they will also be able to request it from staff under the proposal.
Previous proposals to have mandatory use of Covid certs have been rejected by the court.
From the 01st of December, visitors from the Spanish mainland will need to be vaccinated or have a negative covid test to enter the Canary Islands.
