Canary Islands lowest prices.

Which of the Canary Islands is the best value for accommodation?  The latest information is now available for July 2020.  July was the first full month Spain reopened its borders to international visitors since the March COVID 19 lockdown.  

Accommodation occupancy dropped dramatically in July 2020 v July 2019.  Those hoping for accommodation prices to fall in the same way in all islands may be surprised.  One of the big four discounted significantly.  One had higher prices v July 2019 for Hotels and Apartments.   

Average daily price for Hotels/Apartments.

Canary Islands lowest prices. 

The Canary Islands Hotels and apartments had an occupancy of 32.17% in July 2020.  That was down 41.8% v July 2019. 

Hotels had an occupancy of 32.63% down 45.9% v July 2019.  Apartments had an occupancy of 30.96% down 33.8% v July 2019.

Hotel prices were 2.5% lower.  Apartment prices dropped by 3% v July 2019.

Lanzarote average daily price for Hotels/Apartments

Lanarote’s Hotels and Apartments had an occupancy of 27.2% in July 2020.  This was down 52.84% on July 2019.  This was the biggest decline of all the islands in July 2020.  The key UK and Irish markets for Lanazarote did not turn up this July in any significant numbers.

If you were looking for value then Lanzarote was the best choice of the big 4 islands. 

The average daily price for Hotels in July 2020 was €89.20. That is 17% lower than July 2019. 

The average daily price for apartments in July 2020 was €50.80.  That is 23.7% lower than July 2019.

Tenerife average daily price for Hotels/Apartments.

Tenerife’s Hotels and Apartments had an occupancy of 29.9% in July 2020.  This was down 48.10% on July 2019.  This was the second lowest of all the islands in July 2020.  The UK is a key market for Tenerife.Tenerife

 

Tenerife prices in July 2020 were also lower than July 2019  

The average daily price for Hotels in July 2020 was €87.70.  That is  2.7% lower than July 2019. 

The average daily price for apartments in July 2020 was  €63.40.  That was 2.4% lower than July 2019.

Fuerteventura average daily price for Hotels/Apartments.

Fuerteventura’s Hotels and Apartments had an occupancy of 39.4% in July 2020.    This was the highest of the big four islands but down 28.71% on July 2019.  The key German market was one of best preforming  international countries in July 2020.  This helped Fuerteventura.

The average daily price for Hotels in July 2020 was €89.20.  That was 0.5% lower than July 2019. 

The average daily price for apartments in July 2020 was  €61.80.  That was 18.7% higher than July 2019. 

It is worth noting that the island has more hotel rooms than apartments.  The average daily price for all types of tourist accommodation in Fuerteventura was up by 0.3% in July 2020 v July 2019.

Gran Canaria average daily price for Hotels/Apartments.

Canary Islands lowest prices. 

Gran Canaria’s Hotels and Apartments had an occupancy of 34.2% in July 2020.    This was the second best of all the big four islands but down 36.74% on July 2019.

Gran Canaria was the only island of the big four islands where prices were higher for both Hotels and Apartments. 

The average daily price for Hotels in July 2020 was €97.50.  That was 4.4% higher than July 2019. 

The average daily price for apartments in July 2020 was  €55.30.  That was 4.3% higher than July 2019.

Other Islands July 2020.

La Palma.

Occupancy 26% down 40.01% v July 2019.  

Average daily price €62.10 up 18.9% v July 2020.

La Gomera.

Occupancy 23.8% down 21.8% v July 2019.  

Average daily price €60.07 down 8.3% v July 2020.

El Hierro.

Occupancy 69.9% up 19.21% v July 2019.  

Average daily price €61.04 up 14.2% v July 2020.

One reason some islands did not discount may be as much as expected is many hotels did not open in July.  Fewer visitors and fewer accommodation options available.
