Canary Islands cheapest places.
Looking at the latest report for August it had a few surprises. Despite occupancy levels dropping dramatically due to COVID 19 accommodation prices did not fall as much in some Islands.
If you were flexible, there were some bargains to be had on the Canary Islands in August 2020.

Overall tourist occupancy was 45.3% in the Canary Islands in Aug 2020. That is 32.59% lower than Aug 2019. It was an improvement v July when it was 32.17%.
Occupancy by Island August 2020
1.El Hierro 76.4% up 12.24% v Aug 2019.
2. La Palma 66.3% down 5.48% v August 2019.
3. La Gomera 58.1% up 2.29% v August 2019.
4. Fuerteventura 50.6% down 24.44% v August 2019.
5. Gran Canaria 47.5% down 28.21% v August 2019.
6. Tenerife 26% down 42.6% v August 2019.
7. Lanzarote 37.6% down 44.56% v August 2019.
Three of the smallest Islands had the best occupancy in August 2020. El Hierro and La Gomera increased their occupancy v August 2019, which was surprising in COVID 19 times.
Fuerteventura did the best of the big four Islands. The Island is popular with Germans. Germany was one of the best performing international markets in August 2019.
Lanzarote was the worst-performing Island in August 2020. The UK and Irish are important summer markets for Lanzarote. These markets fell by close to 90% in August 2020.

Average daily price for all types of tourist accommodation in August 2020.
The average daily price for all types of accommodation in August 2020 for the Canary Islands was €88.10. That was 1.6% less than August 2019.
The average daily price per Hotel room was €90. That was 4.8% less v August 2019.
The average daily price per Apartment was €60.90. That was 3.3% less than August 2019.
- El Hierro €71.70 up 23.7% v August 2019.
- La Gomera €73.50 up 1.5% v August 2019.
- La Palma €73.50 up 29.6% v August 2019.
- Lanzarote €78.40 down 22.7% v August 2019
- Gran Canaria €85.20 up 3.2% v August 2019.
- Tenerife €91.60 up 2.5% v August 2019.
- Fuerteventura €96.50 up 2.8% v August 2019.
As may be expected, the three smaller Islands had the lowest average daily price for all accommodation. All three were more expensive than August 2019. El Hierro and La Palma by more than 20%.
Lanzarote was the best bargain of the big four islands. Overall prices there dropped by more than 22% v August 2019.
Fuerteventura was the most expensive island for overall accommodation in August 2020 at €96.50 per day. 2.8% more than August 2019.

- El Hierro €84.50 up 31.3% v August 2019.
- La Gomera €89 down 3.6% v August 2019.
- Lanzarote €90.90 down 23.5% v August 2019
- Gran Canaria €93.20 down 5.8% v August 2019.
- Tenerife €97.60 up 1.8% v August 2019.
- Fuerteventura €101.70 up 0.2% v August 2019.
La Palma and El Hierro are the two islands that had the lowest price for a Hotel room in August 2020. They were however over 30% more expensive than august 2019.
Lanzarote was the cheapest of the big four islands for a hotel room in August 2020. The Islands Hotels discounted by over 23% v August 2019.
In Gran Canaria, a Hotel room was 5.8% cheaper in August 2020 v August 2019.
Tenerife and Fuerteventura saw marginal increases. Fuerteventura was the most expensive Island for a Hotel room in August 2020 at €101.70 per Hotel room per night.

- Gran Canaria €55.60 up 3.6% v August 2019.
- La Gomera €58.40 up 7.4% v August 2019
- La Palma €63.60 up 33.9% v August 2019.
- Fuerteventura €67.70 up 17.1% v August 2019.
- Tenerife €69.10 down 2.6% v August 2019.
El Hierro had the lowest daily price per Apartment in August 2020 at €47.50 per day.
Lanzarote has the biggest discount with prices per apartment down a massive 26% v August 2019.
Fuerteventura saw the biggest increase at 17.1% more per apartment v August 2019.
Tenerife was the most expensive Island per apartment, but prices dropped 2.6% v August 2019.
