Canary Islands best prices.

So which of the Canary Islands did the best in July 2020.  How did each island do in July v July 2019?  Which is the cheapest island for accommodation?  Where can you get the cheapest hotel or apartment? 

The Canary Islands had occupancy levels of 32% in July 2020.  That was 42% lower than July 2019.  Did prices also drop because of the COVID 19 crisis?

Occupancy by Island July 2020

1.El Hierro 69.9% up 19.21% v July 2019. 

2. Fuerteventura 39.4% down 28.71% v July 2019.

3. Gran Canaria 34.2% down 36.74% v July 2019. 

4. Tenerife 29.9% down 48.10% v July 2019.

5. Lanazorte 27.2% down 52.84% v July 2019.

6. La Palma 26% down 23.8% v July 2019. 

7. La Gomera 23.8% down 40.01% v July 2019.

Average daily price for all types of tourist accommodation July 2020.

The second smallest island La Gomera was the best value for overall accommodation in July 2020.  Lanzarote had the lowest prices of the big four islands and it was 15.7% cheaper than July 2019.

Gran Canaria was the most expensive island and prices were 7.3% higher than July 2019 for overall accommodation types.

  2. El Hierro €61.40 up  14.2% v July 2019. 
  3. La Palma €62.10 up 18.9% v July 2019.
  4. Lanzarote €78.10 down 15.7% v July 2019
  5. Tenerife €81.10 down 2.7% v July 2019.
  6. Fuerteventura €84.50 up 0.3% v July 2019.
  7. Gran Canaria €85.70 up 7.3% v July 2019.

Fuerteventura

La Palma was the cheapest island for a hotel room in July 2020 but it was slightly more expensive than July 2019. 

Tenerife was the best value of the big four islands and 2.7% cheaper than July 2019. 

Gran Canaria was the most expensive island for a hotel room and 4.4% higher than July 2019.

  2. El Hierro €71.30 up  27.9% v July 2019. 
  3. La Gomera €76.60 down 4.7% v July 2019.
  4. Tenerife €87.70 down 2.7% v July 2019
  5. Lanzarote €89.20 down 17% v July 2019.
  6. Fuerteventura €89.20 down 0.5% v July 2019.
  7. Gran Canaria €97.50 up 4.4% v July 2019.

Average daily price for an apartment July 2020 by Island. 

The smallest island El Hierro was the cheapest island for an apartment in July 2020 and it was over 10% cheaper than July 2019.

Lanzarote was the best value of the big four islands and apartments were 23.7% cheaper than July 2019. 

Tenerife was the most expensive of the big four island for an apartment but it was  and 2.4% less than July 2019.

Interestingly La Palma was the most expensive island for an apartment in July 2020.  It was also 43.6% more expensive than July 2019.  The island would have a limited amount of apartments so that would need to be taken into consideration when looking at overall accommodation prices.
