How are the Islands doing in these COVID 19 days? Are prices dropping? You may be surprised by some of the latest data.
In August more key tourist markets added the islands to their travel blacklists. COVID 19 levels began to rise again in August with Gran Canaria the worse hit.
Overall tourist occupancy reached 45.3% in the Canary Islands in Aug 2020. That is 32.59% lower than Aug 2019. It was better than in July 2020 when it was 32.17%. Two of the smaller Islands actually increased occupancy v August 2019.
The overall average daily price paid for accommodation fell by 1.6% to €88.10 in August 2020 v August 2019. This is a bit misleading. Prices dropped significantly in one of the big four Islands and actually were higher in the other six islands v August 2019.
Fewer hotels open for fewer tourists maybe helping hotels to keep near last years prices.

If you were looking for a Canary Islands bargain in August Lanzarote was the place to go. The average daily price for accommodation in Lanzarote in August 2020 was €78.40. That was 22.7% less v August 2019.
Lanzarote had an accommodation occupancy of 37.6%. That was the lowest of all the islands and down 44.56% v August 2019.

Tenerife August 2020.
Tenerife had an accommodation occupancy of 42.6% in August 2020. That is 37.69% less v August 2019.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in Tenerife was €91.60. That was 2.5% more expensive than August 2019.

Fuerteventura August 2020.
Fuerteventura had an accommodation occupancy of 50.6% in August 2020. That was the best occupancy of all the Islands in August 2020. It is 24.44% less v August 2019.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in Fuerteventura was €96.50. That was the highest of all the Islands and 2.8% more than August 2019.
Gran Canaria August 2020.
Gran Canaria had an accommodation occupancy of 47.5% in August 2020. That was 28.21% less than August 2019.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in Gran Canaria was €85.20. That was 3.2% more than August 2019. The biggest % increase in the big four Islands in August.
La Palma August 2020.
La Palma had an accommodation occupancy of 66.3% in August 2020. That was 5.48% less than August 2019.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in La Palma was €73.70. That was 29.6% more than August 2019. There is much less accommodation available in the smaller islands so the price can vary more dramatically than the four big Islands.
La Gomera August 2020.
La Gomera had an accommodation occupancy of 58.1% in August 2020. That was 2.29% more than August 2019.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in La Gomera was €73.50. That was 1.5% more than August 2019.
El Hierro August 2020.
El Hierro had an accommodation occupancy of 76.6% in August 2020. That was 12.24% more than August 2019 and the highest of all the Islands.
The average daily price for accommodation in August 2020 in El Hierro was €71.70. That was 23.7% more than August 2019.
